METHODOLOGY

PRE-DEMOLITION

  • A hazardous substance survey is carried out. If any such substances are found, they are removed safely to the nearest suitable landfill site licensed to accept them.
  • The site is established, including the construction of a temporary site office, provision of adequate temporary toilets, delivery of storage containers and erection of signage and perimeter fencing.
  • Security measures are implemented.
  • Safety processes are carried out, including strict audits on mandatory documentation and safety.
  • Inductions, safety talks and “toolbox talks” are supplied.
  • All equipment is checked and serviced where needed.
  • Work begins.

RECYCLING

  • Concrete and building material is crushed or broken up and transported to a licensed landfill site or made into base course material.
  • Scrap metal is separated, cut and transferred to a metal processing centre.
  • Non-ferrous materials, such as copper and aluminium, are identified and separated into the correct categories, then transported to the foundry for recycling.
  • As far as possible, stripped items are sold into the second-hand market.
  • The remaining debris is taken to a landfill site in accordance with the Landfill Directive.
  • Documentation confirming the dates, quantities, transportation methods and destinations of each process is supplied.
  • All hazardous and contaminated materials, such as asbestos, oil and bitumen, are disposed of in accordance with legislated requirements. All disposals come with certificates that guarantee materials have been disposed of correctly and legally.

ACCESS AND SECURITY

  • Access and egress points are controlled via a perimeter gate, with a secure access gate for authorised vehicles and personnel.
  • Roads are kept clean at all times using road sweepers and cleaning vehicles.
  • 24-hour guards patrol the site and control pedestrians.

Safety

We put the safety of our workforce above everything else.

  • Our contract staff are well trained and up todate with first aid, fire-fighting and SHE methods.
  • Training is regularly done on fall arrest, risk assessment and scaffolding, as well as the correct and safe handling of the tools and machinery necessary to the trade.
  • Each worker is issued with personal protective equipment (hard hats, protective ear- and eye-wear, dust masks, gloves, overalls, reflective vests and safety boots).
  • “Toolbox talks” are given at the start of each working day.
  • The remaining debris is taken to a landfill site in accordance with the Landfill Directive.
  • Safety audits and risk assessments are carried out before each job is started.
  • Every site has a dedicated safety officer to ensure we avoid being issued with a non-conformity or non-compliance report.
